Budapest

Budapest, the “Pearl of the Danube,” winds along both banks of the river and is divided into the flat district of Pest and the slightly hilly district of Buda. Visitors will find all the major sights along the banks of the Danube—the famous Gellért Hotel with its thermal baths, Castle Hill with the Royal Palace, the University, and the rocky Gellért Hill with the Liberty Statue and the Citadel. In the south of Pest, the Palace of Arts was built in 2005; in addition to the Museum of Modern Art, featuring works by Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol, it also houses the Béla Bartók Concert Hall, which has since made a name for itself thanks to its excellent acoustics. Feel free to ask us about the program. The new workshop and rehearsal center of the Hungarian State Opera and the Erkel Theater is located in the country’s largest industrial monument, the Eiffel Hall in Kőbánya. The 130-year-old hall was designed by János Feketeházy, who worked in Eiffel’s office, which is where its name comes from.
The magnificent State Opera House, opened in 1884 by Franz Joseph I as the Royal Hungarian Opera House, was intended by the king to be smaller than the Vienna State Opera—though he reportedly forgot to specify that it should not be more beautiful than its Viennese counterpart.
